Leading the Way on Jobs and Growth
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE March 4, 2010
OTTAWA – The Conservative Government’s 2010 Action Plan focused on job creation
and growth to support Canada’s economic recovery. The budget also included a
disciplined long-term plan to return to balanced budgets.
“We are
in stage two of our Economic Action Plan. The focus is shifted from stimulus,
to job creation and long term growth,” says Ritz. “We are already seeing the success of our
plan with the creation of 135, 000 new jobs since July 2009, the launch of
16,000 infrastructure projects and a 5% GDP growth in the fourth quarter of
2009.”
The 2010
budget invests in a limited number of new, targeted initiatives to create jobs,
accelerate economic growth, harness Canadian innovation, and make Canada a
choice destination for new business investment.
“This
budget signals the return to balanced budgets once the economy recovers,” says
Ritz. “There are beneficial changes for small business and farmers, for example
getting rid of red tape and eliminating all tariffs on manufacturing inputs.”
The
Conservative deficit reduction plan has three key points. First, wind down the stimulus spending.
Second, restrain growth in government spending in specific areas. Third, undertake
a comprehensive review of government spending on overhead and administration.
As your Conservative
Government works to balance the budget, we have not done so by cutting
provincial transfers, raising taxes, or at the expense of hardworking
Canadians.
