Liberal -Socialist-Separatist Coalition is
Undemocratic
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 02 DECEMBER 2008
OTTAWA –
The proposed coalition by the three Opposition parties is an affront to
democracy, says Battlefords-Lloydminster MP, Gerry Ritz.
“Canadians voted and gave us a
mandate to govern and now just six weeks later the Liberals, NDP and Bloc are trying
to circumvent that result, attempting through secret negotiations to do what
they’ve been unable to do at the ballot box,” says Ritz.
The Opposition has every right
to defeat the Government through a non- confidence vote. They do not, however,
have the right to impose a coalition they campaigned against and a secret veto
power deal with Quebec separatists without the consent of Canadian voters.
“I respect the votes of my constituents and
all Canadians. Their votes must count
and should not be taken for granted. Through emails,
phone calls and faxes, I urge you to tell the Governor General not to let the
coalition govern. I am more than willing to return to the electorate and let
the voters decide,” says Ritz.
Ritz
says Canadians should also expect Liberal leadership hopeful Michael Ignatieff to
be reasonable and put what’s in the best interest for Canada ahead of
partisanship.
“This is
not the time, particularly amid economic uncertainty, for political games that
put our country’s future at risk. More than 70 per cent of Canadians voted
against Stéphane Dion and his carbon tax. It is unimaginable that he could
undemocratically be named Prime Minister,” says Ritz.
